About the Artist

Linda Delaney - Biography

Linda Delaney is a visual artist based in Lewes, DE. Living near the beach in the Delmarva area offers daily opportunity for extraordinary inspiration, often jumping on her bike to capture an early morning sunrise or sunset. Her paintings are inspired by photographs she has taken over many years, as well as studies completed en plein air on location.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she also minored in Photography. Following her retirement from a career in advertising with Fine Gardening Magazine in 2021, Linda fully dedicated herself to return to her artistic pursuits. Being comfortable in the art studio throughout high school and college, she instantly had the sense of “coming home” as she drove onto the Rehoboth Art League Campus to begin classes and workshops for the first time in almost 40 years. She pursued studies and redevelopment in the arts with passion at the art league as well as joining a semi-private studio with regional landscape artist, Joe Terrone in Rehoboth.

Her commitment to her craft was recognized and celebrated in May 2024, when her oil painting Evening Blues was awarded PleinAir Magazine’s 13th Annual PleinAir Salon Art Competition, People’s Choice Award, after qualifying through PleinAir Magazine’s People’s Choice Award in January 2024, PleinAir Salon Art Competition. This significant accomplishment encouraged Linda to further expand her skills, participating in a mentor studio with Bernard Dellario at the Academy of Art Museum, Easton, MD, and attending workshops led by nationally recognized artists including Kathie Odom, Anne Blair Brown, Haidee-Jo Summers, Joe Gyurcsak, and Walt Bartman.

For Linda, art is an exploration of quiet beauty and heartfelt connection, anchored by a deep appreciation for the fleeting interplay of light, color, and atmosphere. Each piece reflects a reverence for the natural world and for those subtle, often overlooked moments that have the power to stir the soul. Whether through painting or photography, she strives to capture not just what is seen, but what is felt—those sparks of inspiration that compel her to pause, turn back, and truly take notice. And she strives to invite viewers to join her in that moment, step into the scene and sense the wonder of inspiration that drew her in. Whether catching the last shimmer of light dancing just before dusk across a field, or a beautiful shift in hue glimmering in the sky above the ocean dunes, her intention is to help the viewer see the extraordinary in ordinary moments. She hopes her art serves as a gentle reminder to slow down and appreciate the transient beauty that surrounds us every day.
